The role earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards 65th ceremony.
From 1996-2001, his career suffered setbacks due to several arrests on charges related to drugs including cocaine, heroin, and marijuana and spending nearly a year in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Robert, on condition of posting a $5,000 bail, was unexpectedly freed when a judge ruled that his collective time in incarceration facilities from the initial 1996 arrests had qualified him for early release.
Since his release, his career has taken a turn for the best with appearances in countless movies and bagging awards upon awards which include but not limited to Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film.
